From Pelion to the Sporades: Ferries from Volos to Skiathos, Skopelos & Alonissos

Pelion and the Sporades islands sit side by side. From the port of Volos, ferries and fast boats sail to Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos, so you can combine mountain villages and East Pelion beaches with a few days of island life in one trip.

Ferries from Volos to the Sporades

Volos is the main mainland port for the Sporades. In summer there are daily departures; in spring and autumn the timetable is reduced, so check the current schedule before you plan.

Fast boats are quicker but more expensive and can be cancelled in strong winds; conventional ferries also carry cars.

Getting to Volos port

If you arrive by plane or stay in a Pelion village, the easiest way to catch an early ferry is a private transfer to Volos port with Volos Transfers. The driver meets you at your hotel or at Volos airport and drops you at the ferry gate.

A sample Pelion + Sporades itinerary

  1. Days 1–3, East Pelion: stay in Agios Ioannis at Kentrikon Boutique Hotel, take the boat trip to Poseidon’s Caves and walk to Damouchari.
  2. Day 4: transfer to Volos port and ferry to Skiathos or Skopelos.
  3. Days 5–7: island beaches, then ferry back to Volos for your flight home.

Tips

  • Book ferries early for July and August, especially with a car.
  • Keep a free day at the end of the trip in case a fast boat is cancelled by wind.
  • Skiathos airport has international charter flights in summer, so you can also fly home from the island.
