Cook Greek pie, briam or gemista on a family farm in Portaria

Join a hands-on cooking class at Karaiskos Agritourism Farm in Portaria, on Mount Pelion. Walk around the farm, pick greens, herbs and fresh vegetables from the garden and eggs from the chicken coop, then cook with a local cook next to the wood oven. You are welcomed with hot mountain tea or homemade sour cherry juice.

Choose one of three menus:

  • Greek pie with a local woman: open phyllo dough the traditional way, fill it with greens and herbs from the garden and bake it in the wood oven. While it bakes, make fried zucchini balls and tzatziki.
  • From farm to plate: briam with seasonal vegetables, tirokouloura cheese pie with handmade phyllo, and strapatsada with fresh eggs and garden tomatoes.
  • Flavors of Pelion: gemista (stuffed tomatoes and peppers), smoky eggplant dip, and crispy fried dough bites filled with local feta.

At the end, everything you cooked is served at the table with a fresh seasonal salad and wine from a Greek vineyard, and every guest receives a participation diploma. The whole group cooks the same menu, which you choose when you book.

When: Tuesday to Thursday at 11:00, Friday at 16:00 (not on public holidays). Book at least 48 hours ahead.
Group: 2 to 20 people. Children 0–4 free, 4–12 half price.
Language: English and Greek.
Meeting point: Karaiskos Farm, Portaria. A transfer from Volos port or your hotel can be added on request.
