When the summer crowds leave, Pelion changes colour. The chestnut, beech and plane forests turn gold and copper, the stone villages smell of wood smoke and roasted chestnuts, and the sea in East Pelion stays warm well into October. Mild days, quiet trails and mountain villages open all year: autumn is one of the best seasons on the mountain of the Centaurs.

On the forest trails
Autumn is the best time for hiking in Pelion. The temperature is pleasant, the forests are full of colour and the springs flow again after the first rains. From Tsagarada to Fakistra you walk under chestnut and plane trees, with views over the Aegean.

In autumn the garden of Karaiskos Farm gives the last vegetables and greens of the year. You pick ingredients, roll your own pie dough, cook in a wood oven and sit down to eat together. It pairs beautifully with the wine tasting on the same day.

The monasteries of Meteora are about 2.5–3 hours from Volos. In autumn the air is clear, the forests around the rocks change colour and there are fewer visitors than in summer.
